Wild Type Ranch, Northern Edition Part 1: Starting with Why

Moving an entire ranch from Texas to Wisconsin is a VERY BIG endeavor. Here's some of the Why's behind our move.

After nearly a decade of building Wild Type Ranch in Central Texas, we made the difficult decision to relocate our operation to Southern Wisconsin. This wasn't a decision made lightly - it came after years of consideration and planning.

Why Wisconsin?

Climate change has made ranching in Central Texas increasingly challenging. Extended droughts, extreme heat, and unpredictable weather patterns have taken their toll. Wisconsin offers more reliable rainfall, cooler summers, and a growing season that's actually getting longer due to climate shifts.

Why now?

The opportunity presented itself. We found the perfect piece of land - 160 acres of gently rolling hills with good soil potential, existing infrastructure, and proximity to the Madison market.

The Vision

Our vision remains the same: raise animals regeneratively, heal the land, and provide nutrient-dense food to our community. We're just doing it in a new place, with new partners, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll share more about the logistics of moving a farm 1,200 miles north.
