Tears come unbidden. I find myself sobbing; the single word "home" resonating with each heartbeat. The land already has a hold on my soul.
We closed on the farm today.
200 acres of rolling Wisconsin hills, currently in corn and soybeans, soon to become diverse pasture teeming with life. The previous owners farmed it conventionally for decades. Now it's our turn to help it heal.
## First Impressions
Walking the land for the first time as owners, I'm struck by both its beauty and its potential. The soil is tired from years of annual cropping, but I can see what it could become:
- Lush pastures supporting multiple species
- Hedgerows full of wildlife
- Ponds restored to health
- Deep-rooted perennials building soil
## The Vision
This farm will become:
1. A demonstration of regenerative principles
2. A training ground for new farmers
3. A source of nutrient-dense food for our community
4. A legacy for future generations
## The Work Ahead
There's so much to do. Fencing to install. Water systems to develop. Buildings to repair. Cover crops to plant.
But today, we just walked. And cried. And dreamed.
Home sweet farm.
